Join us for a relaxing bicycle tour to valley of the River Dão in the Center of Portugal! A 50 km long smooth bicycle tour from Viseu to Santa Comba Dão on a deactivated railway line, which can be only used by cyclists and hikers nowadays.
This is the „Ecopista do Dão” which was created after closing down the railway line in 1998. Today it is the longest contiguous asphalted bicycle path in Portugal. The route passes by several coffee bars, restaurants, churches, vineyards and historical places. From some points in good weather you can even see the „Serra da Estrela” mountain range, which is has the highest peak in continental Portugal (2000m).
This day tour can be fitted easily in your Portuguese vacation and shows you the calm and peaceful countryside of Portugal.
Mainly on the weekends, can be Saturday and/or Sunday. Please let us know until the middle of the that week if you would like to book this tour. Can happen that is some occasions, we cannot organize the tour on weekends.

The trekking bicycles are equipped with 37-40/700c tyres and disc brakes, light weight ideal for the route. Also equipped with bell and racks. They are available in different sizes 14”-21”. The aluminum frame, suspension fork and the light weight construction makes them efficient for this journey.

It is a easy tour, where you are going to cycle on a deactivated railway line, which is closed from traffic. Smoothly descending from starting point to the end with some occasional rolling hills.
Day trip overview
We pick you up at a prearranged time (maximum at 8:00 GMT) and place, then after loading the bikes and equipment into the car / van we set off to Viseu. The transport takes about 1,5 hour, after arriving to Viseu we unload the bikes and prepare ourselves to the tour. During the transport the guide will give some hints,tips and do a small briefing to the group.
When everyone is ready, the tour begins, the group cycles along the „Eco way” of the River Dão in direction to Santa Comba Dão. The tour guide moves the van to the endpoint, while doing the refreshment more or less on halfway. He or she will be always nearby the group, in case support is needed.
After the bicycle tour we head back to Porto. During the transport some detours can be made, if every member of the group unanimously votes for it. For example, we ca look around in Santa Comba Dão or have a nice dinner in Mealhada along the way back to Porto. Late arrival to Porto can be expected on this tour.
1 It is possible to change the pick-up point beyond the Porto vicinity. For this service, an extra cost is added to the price of the tour determined by the distance from Porto and it is always discussed with the client first.
2 Safety first! Using a proper bicycle helmet is mandatory on our every bicycle tours, as well as compliance and responsible behavior according to the Highway Code in Portugal. If you do not have a helmet, please let us know when you subscribe for the tour, we lend you one!
3 The supported tour means that the tour is not guided. The group cycles and navigates on their own with the help of the equipment provided. The tour guide is nearby with the van, ready to help if needed.
